Emergencies
Mental health emergencies are frightening, frustrating, and hard for individuals and their families to evaluate. Trained mental health professionals and hospital personnel can provide essential help and support. Calling 911 or going to a hospital emergency room are options. Check your insurance card for emergency or patient relations phone numbers and covered hospitals. Your local mental health center can be contacted, usually 24 hours a day. Your local communitys suicide/crisis lines and battered womens shelters can help too. In the Kansas City area, the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) can be contacted for assistance with sexual assaults. If the situation you are confronting is life threatening or a suicide attempt or a weapon is involved, do not attempt to handle the problem yourself, particularly alone - call 911.
