Psychoeducational
Groups Psychoeducational groups are professionally led groups with a skills or personal growth theme or topic, such as assertiveness training, relaxation, conflict resolution, couples communication, anger control, positive parenting, and so on. They typically are structured around lessons and have a set number of sessions, which include exercises, lecture, discussion, and homework assignments. They are not therapy groups and may or may not be led by licensed mental health providers. Participation should feel voluntary, though regular attendance may be mandatory, and a fee is usually charged for the entire series of meetings. The most successful psychoeducational groups are those that include opportunities for practicing the skills being taught under supervision and with constructive feedback.
